Getting hair cut for Army Basic Training?

Hi. I am leaving for basic training in late August. I am cutting my hair like a pixie cut (I had one but it grew out). All of my friends in the military say it's a good idea and that they wish they had done it. However, I have one that is all like "Don't cut your hair short. As a female, it will draw unwanted attention from the Drill Sergeants." I was wondering from anyone who is in the military or has served in the military if this is true or is this guy feeding me some bull crap?
