I want to leave my body, how do i do astral projection?

like ive tried to do astral projection yesterday, and i was feeling my spirit starting to leave my body, but whenever this occured, id be like :"wow, im leaving my body," and i would then become aware of who "i " was and thus i re-developed ego (sense of self). also , is a sense of self possible if i am going to leave my body during astral projection?
