Can a nation of pacifists remain free for more than a short time? Is pacifism compatible with freedom?

A nation that will not fight when necessary will just become taken over. What some people don't realize is we need war. We thrive off of war. These pro peace hypocrites really have no idea what would happened in the absence of it.
